Love Story

So I've been listening to Taylor Swift on repeat, pretty much, right? And everyone knows Love Song. And I was listening to it driving to school the other day and I realized there's one line that really confuses me.

You were Romeo, I was a Scarlet Letter.

I've read the book, and it doesn't make sense. If Taylor is a Scarlet Letter, then she's a symbol for ostracization, adultery/premarital sex (dependent upon your perspective in the novel), sin, deception, unhappiness, pregnancy, loneliness... And I really don't know if that's what Taylor meant to say.

And then I realized I remember a lot of The Scarlet Letter and not too much the books I've read this year...like Hard Times. And I remember that I have a lot of studying to do for finals.
