I've had three cups of tea today. Each for a different purpose, but each fulfilling their specific purpose.
one. plantation mint. with my grandparents. to feel sophisticated as we ate a thrown together meal of ground beef, rice, and vegetables. to be social. to talk, to laugh, to make my throat hurt less. allergies...
two. tazo organic chai. with anna karenina. to feel sophisticated as i read "the greatest novel ever written," according to the back of the book, and to the "many" who feel as such. tea and books go well together. very well.
three. good earth caffeine free. with koka. to make me feel okay when i was hurt and teenage. she consoled me with the fact that "we're teenagers, it's supposed to hurt, we're supposed to deal with heartbreak, be on emotional roller coasters, and feel like the world is ending every other week." or maybe i paraphrased, but those were mostly her words, i promise. and it made me feel so much better. the words and the tea. actually, tea and advice go together as well as tea and books do.
The tea was lovely. I think that I should have more tea in my life. It's delicious. And it makes you pause, calm down, sip. Your thoughts have to stop to enjoy the tea. To make sure it's not too hot to drink, to take in each of the different flavors in one mouthful, to swallow, put down the cup, pick it up again, repeat.
My mind connected that with Sabbaths, how God designed for His people to work, to work hard, but to always stop at the end of the week, gather themselves, and honor Him before going back to working again. Tea makes you stop. Sabbaths make you stop. I need more stopping in my life.
Today was a good day.
